Team Champs 2024

The first weekend of racing for the 2024-2025 season is under our belts, and boy was it fun!

Team Champs is an intersquad meet where UCSC swimmers are divided into one of three teams – Bronto, Rapto, or Ptero. It’s a friendly but very competitive meet. The passion and loyalty some have for their team is truly admirable! The U of C pool was loud all night with endless cheering coming from both the pool deck and the stands.

Friday night was the first Team Champs in a full year due to the water restrictions in June 2024 that forced us to cancel the summer edition of Team Champs. The delay created more anticipation and excitement as Rapto and Bronto had to wait extra long to try and get their vengeance on the two-time reigning champs, Ptero!

New this year were the team-branded caps – Rapto supporting red caps, Bronto with yellow, and Ptero in black. This added another layer of competitiveness to the meet as it became obvious who was racing who. Many of the other cheerful staples were present as well, from team cheers, team-coloured clothing and face-paint, to signs, costumes, and even wigs! It’s really great to see how much spirit this team has!

Despite a very close race in the team point battle, it was Rapto who came out on top in the end – their first win in over three years – congratulations to all Rapto members!

Team Champs is always so exciting. It’s fun to kick off the season of racing with a meet that is so team oriented. Swimmers – keep this in mind as we move forward through the season and always bring the energy. Cheer lots, support each other, and have fun!
